In Ica the great harvest festival know as “La Vendimia” is organized since 1958. Its proposal is to keep and revalue the grapevine customs that were already getting lost. This festival celebrates and honors the Grape, plant from which you can obtain the juicy grape that it is born forming clusters with its quality and sweetness. Of this fruit there are obtained the thinnest and delicate liquors that make famous the city of Ica, the most important wine region of the country.

About the Festival

PeruThe cut of the clusters of grape is the principal attraction of the festivity. This is a traditional rite that begins with the harvest of the crop by feminine hands that cut skillfully the juicy clusters that are deposited in baskets. Act followed, is the traditional step of the grape. For this part, the town chooses and crowns a Queen, who accompanied of his court, executes the step of the grapes to extract the juice of the fruit that will turn into liquor.

PeruTogether with the liquors, the assistants can enjoy the flavor of the delicious “tejas” – candied pecans stuffed with dry fruits and “manjar blanco”covered with a sweet sugar coat. Another main attraction of this festival is the parade. The beautiful queen joins the parade in an allegoric car, while throwing clusters of grapes to the public who applauds her. Town’s main companies, schools and universities also prepare showy cars that add to the parade. Groups of young women organize boisterous extras and the whole population lives through a contagious environment of real holiday.

During the celebrations, there are schedule concerts at night along with mechanical games and fireworks. There are also gastronomic contests as sand boarding championships in “La Huacachina”.
