If you are interested in surfing while in Peru and like to visit one of the best surfing beaches, where the left longest wave in the world is located, this is the tour for you. Most of our passengers would take this tour as an extension to a classic tour, before or after. You will begin your adventure, by getting a taste of Lima and its popular beaches, along with its rich history. You will have a surfing class in Lima followed by a city tour. After Lima, you will continue to Trujillo, where you will enjoy the beaches of the northern coastline of Peru and take surfing classes at one of the most famous beaches in Peru. You will also visit the Museum of Chan Chan, which has very informative exhibits based around the Chimu Empire and the city of Chan Chan. The final portion of your surfing tour will take you further North, to the city of Chiclayo, to the Museum of the Royal Tombs of Sipán, which will showcase the marvelous finds from Huaca Rajada, along with the most important archaeological remains of the Mochica Culture, in an exceptional exhibition that combines maximum scientific accuracy, security and enjoyment to show the jewels, emblems and ornaments found in the tomb of a Mochica government leader called the Lord of Sipán. This tour includes both surfing and cultural elements and is great for families as well.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival to Lima

PeruUpon you arrival to Lima, you will be met and transported to your hotel in Lima, where you will spend a well-deserved overnight stay. * An extra day in Lima can be added upon request. Please let us know if you like us to add additional activities.

Day 2: Morning Surfing class & Afternoon Lunch with Lima City Tour (B, L)

After breakfast at your hotel in Lima, you will be met at your hotel by one of our representatives, and taken to the beaches of Barranquito and Macaja in Lima, to prepare for your surfing class. Once you arrive, you will have a brief explanation of the history of surfing in Peru, and the culture associated with it. At this point, you will begin a half an hour warm-up and simulation to get used to the board and receive specific instructions needed for your 1-hour class in the water. At the conclusion of your class, you will be taken back to your hotel, in order for you to change and get some quick rest, prior to heading out to one of Lima’s best restaurants, where you will enjoy a typical Peruvian lunch. In the afternoon, you will embark on a tour of the city of Lima. On the City Tour, you will see the Spanish City Square, get a snapshot of the most important city sites, and visit a world-class museum to learn about pre-Inca cultures. Sites to be visited: Main Square, The Cathedral, Government Palace, City Hall, San Francisco Monastery (including catacombs), old streets with colonial houses, and a great driving tour through beautiful San Isidro and Miraflores. At the conclusion of your city tour, you will be taken back to your hotel in Lima, for a well-deserved rest. * While in Lima, we highly recommend adding culinary activities such as cooking classes and tasting dinners in the best restaurants of Latin America, for more information check our Culinary site: taste-of-peru.com and ask our agents for more information. An extra day in Lima can be added upon request.

Day 3: Flight to Trujillo & Private Surfing Class (B)

After breakfast at your hotel in Lima, you will be picked up, and taken to the airport, in order to catch your flight to the Northern city of Trujillo. Upon your arrival to Trujillo, one of our representatives will be waiting for you at the airport, and will take you directly to your Chicama surfing hotel (90 minutes by car). Once at your hotel, you will have the chance to change in order to commence your 2-hour, surfing class. Much like the class you had in Lima, this class will further teach you some surfing techniques and tips, but also provide you with some cultural & historical background in the area. The class is at the hotel shores. At the conclusion of your class, you will be able to taken back to your hotel for the remainder of the day. Both lunch and dinner are on your own today, but you will have plenty of options in and around your hotel. * You can always take a bus instead of flying, which is significantly less expensive but longer.

Day 4: Private Surfing Class (B)

PeruAfter breakfast at your hotel, you will once again get ready for your private surfing class at the hotel. You will start with stretching exercises and conditioning using the board, follow with some theory and a 1.5-hour practice with the intructor. For more experienced surfers, the hotel offers the service of a Zodiac which is used to bring the surfers back to the hotel since Chicama has the “longest wave in the world” (2.2km) Once again, both dinner and lunch will be on your own tonight. * If you are an experience surfer, you may want to explore other beaches in addition to the hotel beach. You could use this day to go to Pacasmayo, poemape, Huanchaco, El brujo beaches located close to the hotel. Please let us know and we will arrange it for you.

Day 5: Private Chan Chan and Huaca del Sol y de la Luna Tour & Bus to Chiclayo (B)

After breakfast at your hotel, you will be met at your hotel for your Chan Chan arqueological site. The ruins are located about 5 kilometers from the center of Trujillo. Our first visit will take you to the Museum of Chan Chan, which has very informative exhibits based around the Chimu Empire, and the city of Chan Chan. Once at the museum, you will be able to see various original artifacts that were found in Chan Chan by the local archaeologists. Among the pieces you will see are ancient vessels, weapons, stone works, textiles and other remains found in Chan Chan. It also displays a beautiful table showing Peruvian archaeology in the context of world history. Here we will learn many aspects about the construction of Chan Chan and also about its builders, the Chimu Culture. Later on we will continue our tour to the ruins of Chan Chan. On site, our local guide will lead you throughout the site, visiting the most important sectors of this ancient city. Among the important sectors we will visit are the Chan Chan great plaza, a large square where it is said the Chimu people carried out lavish ceremonies. At this point you will be able to see fine pieces representing marine deities decorating the high walls. Then we will visit the other sectors of Chan Chan where the houses of the nobility are located, which depict a life highly influenced by the nearby ocean. After exploring the site we will return to the city of Trujillo, in order to get some lunch, our guide will recommend restaurants. In the afternoon, we will continue on by visiting the Temple of the Sun and the moon: These ceremonial centers are located in the countryside of the District of Moche, 5 Km. south of the Trujillo City (15 minutes approximately). The Huaca, or Temple of the Sun, is a scaled pyramid measuring approximately 43 m. in height, which, according to tradition, was built in only three days by 250,000 men, using approximately 70 million adobes. It was used for ceremonial purposes and possibly in administrative functions as well as for housing for upper class. The Huaca or Temple of the Moon, located 500 m. from the previous structure, is a monument comprised of overlapping temples built during different periods. A tomb was uncovered here, with over 40 sacrificed warriors. A top its strong adobe surface they are remains of large multi-colored murals, where the face of the Moche God, Aia Apaek is depicted. At the conclusion of your tour, you will be taken back to your hotel, in order to get ready for your trip to Chiclayo via bus. Once ready, you will be picked up, and taken to the Trujillo bus terminal, where you will board your bus en route to the city of Chiclayo. Upon your arrival to Chiclayo, you will be met at the bus terminal, and taken directly to your hotel, where you will have the chance to settle in for the remainder of the evening. *Please let us know if you like us to include meals

Day 6: Royal Tombs of the Lord of Sipan and Tucume (B)

PeruAfter breakfast at your hotel in Chiclayo, you will be met at your hotel by one of our representatives, and taken on your Royal Tombs of the Lord of Sipan tour. The Museum of the Royal Tombs of Sipán showcase the marvelous finds from Huaca Rajada, and it exhibits the most important archaeological remains of the Mochica Culture, in an exceptional exhibition that combines maximum scientific accuracy, security and enjoyment, to show the jewels, emblems and ornaments found in the tomb of a Mochica government leader called the Lord of Sipán. At the conclusion of your tour, you will have a chance to break for lunch on your own before continuing on the second portion of your tour.

In the afternoon, you will continue on your Tucume: Valley of the Pyramids tour. The Túcume archeological complex is located 1 km / 0,6 miles from the town of Túcume (10 minutes by car) or 33 km / 21 miles north of Chiclayo (20 minutes by car). It is the capital of the Sicán Culture. According to legend, it was built in the year 700 A.D., and was founded by Calac, descendent of Naylamp. Túcume, or “the Valley of the Pyramids,” is made up of twenty-six pyramids, the most impressive ones being the Huaca del Pueblo, La Raya, El Sol, and Las Estacas. In addition to the archeological richness, other programs are offered such as testing of the local cuisine, shamanistic experiences, traditional medicine, and cultural exchange. Túcume stands out for its level of community involvement in the preservation of its natural and cultural heritage. At the conclusion of your tour, you will be taken back to your hotel for the remainder of the evening. *Please let us know if you like us to include meals

Day 7: Flight back to Lima (B)

After breakfast at your hotel in Chiclayo, you will check-out and taken directly to the airport, in order to catch your flight back to the capital city of Lima. Once you arrive in Lima, you will be once again bet met at the airport, and taken to your hotel in Lima, where you will have the chance to enjoy the remainder of the afternoon at your leisure.

Day 8: Back Home (B)

After breakfast at your hotel in Lima, you will be met by one of our representatives and taken directly to the airport, in order to catch your flight back home.

NOTE: This tour is usually taken as an extension of our classic tour, before or after. Also, we can include other alternative activities for members of your group not interested in surfing.
