Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival to Lima/Transfer to the Sacred Valley with Chinchero Tour on the way

Upon your arrival to Lima, you will immediately catch your short, one-hour connecting flight into the Cusco. Once you arrive in Cusco, our representative will meet you at the airport and to take you to Sacred Valley where along the way, you will have a chance to see the bustling, market town of Chinchero. The town of Chinchero is located at over 11,500 feet. Its extensive agricultural terraces made it, in Incan times, the breadbasket of Cusco city. The main sight to see at this location is a catholic church, with fine paintings from the Cusquenian School. Modern Chinchero has a very active community of women weavers who create textiles on blackstrap looms using only natural dyes. The weavers make fine, high quality mantas, table runners, pillows, bags, belts, and scarves in soft natural colors. Once arriving in the Sacred Valley, you will be taken directly to your hotel, for a very well-deserved rest. *Depending on your international flight, you might need an extra night in Lima before your flight to Cusco. Please let us know if you would like us to include an extra night in Lima.

Day 2: River Rafting & Ollantaytambo Visit (B, L)

PeruAfter an early breakfast at your Sacred Valley hotel, we pick you up from the lobby and drive to “Pachar”. Here you will receive your safety talk and equipment. (Toilet facilities will be available for your use.) After a brief period practicing on the flat parts of the river, the first part of the tour will be in easy water but with spectacular views of the mountains and archeological sites passing down to Ollantaytambo and its Inca terraces and we find rapids class II and III finishing with “El Resbaladero” (the slippery one) which a strong class III rapid that includes waves and small whirlpools. We will then have lunch in a traditional restaurant located on the riverside and owned by the local community. This is a great chance to enjoy the Andean cuisine while supporting community projects. Proceed to Ollantaytambo, one of the last Inca cities remaining still on foot. Passengers will enjoy a guided visit to the site that crowns the town still inhabited by the locals in much the same way as it was during the time of the Incas. The lodging area is formed by complex structures known as “canchas” or apartments. The Inca built a temple on a terraced site above the town. The impressive, standing stones they erected, conjure up images of Atlantis. This is the site where Manco Inca and his warriors staged a temporary victory over the Spanish Conquistadors, led by Francisco Pizarro. During this victory, the Inca warriors flooded the fields, while raining down spears and arrows from above, making it difficult for the Spanish horses to maneuver, ultimately forcing a rare retreat on the part of the Conquistadors. Finish your tour, we will go to Pahcar, where we dry off and change cloths. (Toilet facilities once again available.) At this point, we return to your hotel in the Sacred Valley for a well deserved rest. * An extra overnight at the sacred valley can be added upon request. Please let us know if you like us to add additional activities and meals.

Day 3: Via Ferrata (B, S)

The lines have between 100 and 500mt, for a 2000 mt total. Each one is different from the other, largest one, fastest one, perfect for each adventure level. After the zip line, you will break for a snack before heading back to your Sacred Valley hotel. * If one of the members of your family does not want to participate in this, you can accompany them and enjoy their rider while taking pictures. In the Main Market you can find the best variety of vegetables and fruits in the country, including exotic products from the “Andes” and the “Jungle”. In all Peruvian markets, “el regateo” is a common practice “asking for a discount and negotiating the price for the product with each vendor” people even ask for a “Yapa” something for free with your purchase, one extra lime or one extra potato. After you finish tasting the exotic fruits and learn about the vegetables and tour the market you and your family will start your secret mission: Mission Ceviche. We will give you a list, money and a market bag and you will have to buy the ingredients for your ceviche on your own. This is fun as you will have to find ways to stretch the money we give you to buy everything…Don’t worry…El Regateo really works!

Immediately following your market visit, you will then head out to your cooking class where you will have the chance to take part in a very special, Intro to Peruvian Cuisine class, followed by lunch. Our chefs will teach you the quintessential basics of Peruvian Cuisine. At the conclusion of lunch, your journey to Peru winds to a close as we take you back to your hotel, where you will pick up your luggage and continue on to the airport for the flight back home. Flight times will depend on your flight time back home. * This class could be exchanged with a “Tea-time” class in which you will learn to make Peruvian staple sandwiches. Therefore, tickets are non refundable and non transferable.

About Huaynapichu Tickets

Entrance tickets to Huaynapichu are not longer free, entrance tickets are now US$12.00 per person. There are two scheduled visits per day, with a limit of 200 people per visit (Total of 400 per day).
