Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Flight to Iquitos & Free Afternoon

You will be picked up from your hotel in Lima and taken to the airport, where you will catch your flight to Iquitos. Once you arrive in Iquitos, one of our representatives will be waiting for you, and accompany you to your Hotel in Iquitos. You will have the rest of the afternoon at your leisure to explore the city of Iquitos on your own. You can take this tour before or after Cusco or as part of a longer itinerary. Please ask our agents to help you customize it!

Day 2: 3D/2N Jungle Program (B, L, D)

After breakfast you will be transfer to the Explorama dock, from where you will embark on your Twenty-five mile journey down the Amazon River to Explorama Lodge. In the afternoon, after lunch, you will have the chance to hike along the “Lake Trail” through lowland rainforest which is seasonally flooded. During the high water season, this excursion is done by open boat! After dinner, you will embark on a Night walk or open boat ride to enjoy the sounds of the rainforest and stars of the Southern sky.

Day 3: 3D/2N Jungle Program (B, L, D)

After breakfast at your lodge, you will depart on a morning walk along the “Bushmaster Trail”, where scientific studies by the Missouri Botanical Gardens have found the world’s highest biodiversity of trees per square hectare. Your guide will show and point out many plants used in medicine today, and many that we may use in the future. After lunch, you will go on an afternoon open-boat trip along the Amazon in search of either of the two species of freshwater dolphin, found in the river, and a chance for an afternoon swim. In the evening, dinner will be included at the lodge. *You can add more days at the lodge, please ask our agents to send you an updated itinerary.

Day 4: 3D/2N Jungle Program & Flight Back to Lima – Home (B)

After breakfast at the lodge, you will depart for an early Morning walk along a local river trail with stops along the way to visit the “ribereños” or river people, visit a river school, see the local sugar cane rum “factory” or visit our resident American medical doctor in her clinic sponsored by the Rotary Club. Your journey to Peru winds to a close as we provide transfer to the airport in Iquitos for the flight back to the Capital city of Lima.

VERY IMPORTANT: Please note that the activities described above are for the EXPLORAMA LODGE ONLY. Each lodge has their own activities due to their location and own logistics (although very similar). In order to make this proposal simpler, we have included ONLY this description. However, we will be happy to provide other descriptions upon request.

As most extensions are additions to our tours, we have found that it would be best to send each individual client a customize price to accurately reflect the cost of the whole tour. We are committed to providing you with the best service and we will send you your specific tour proposal, which meets your needs almost immediately after receiving your request, within 24 hours. As price depends on each passenger choices, please send us the following information and we will respond.

• Level of accommodation (3,4,5*). Please see options below
• How many nights? Programs have minimum of 2 nights and go to up to 6 nights
• Need domestic or international flights?
• Have a special request (ie: special diet, wheelchair, children, senior, etc)
• Most our Tambopata tours are in Groups as all passengers stay in the lodges and follow their specific schedules and itineraries. However, private tours can be arranged, please let us know if you prefer a private tour.

• Expert leadership, guides & support personnel for all listed tours
• Accommodations: 1 night in Iquitos/ 3 nights in Iquitos Lodge
• Meals as noted (B = Breakfast, L = Lunch, D = Dinner). We can add any meals upon request
• Land excursions as noted including entrance fees (Natural Reserve)

What’s Not Included?

• Airport taxes: Local ($5-6) and International ($31) departure tax of payable in local currency by each passenger at Lima International Airport upon departure (if applicable)
• International and domestic airfares, usually quoted separately
• Excess baggage charges
• Medical immunizations
• Insurance of any kind: mandatory evacuation insurance; suggested cancellation insurance, interruption, baggage loss, damage and delay
• Tipping & Gratuities (Guides $4 per person per day / Drivers $1 per person per day)
• Items of a personal nature (clothing, sodas, liquor, snacks, laundry, etc.)
• Visas. Please be advised that some citizens other than Canadians and US may need visa to travel to Peru. Please advise us of your nationality to help you or check with the Peruvian Consulate
