PROJECT – THE TOWN OF HUAROCONDO

As you will see, there are too many projects to developed in Huarocondo, each project is already organized (logistic) so we just need your cooperation to make them happend.

FACILITY #1: PRIMARY SCHOOL-#50108

1. Location:

This primary school is a government school called #50108. The school has two sites. A few years ago, as part of Fujimori’s projects of “Build a school per day” the government built a new school, which is located in front of this facility, which was the school before the new construction. However, this new school is not big enough to hold all the children in the area and the town is using the old school for 4th, 5th and 6th grades.

2. Information about number of children/adults at facility:
360 children from 9-12 years olds

3. Primary needs and type of activities we are planning (i.e. party for kids, etc.).
The primary school has 9 rooms for classes, 2 bathrooms and a small garden/patio. Their primary needs are:

A. ROOFS:
• Problem: Currently they have roofs but made of “Calamina” sheets of galvanized steel commonly used in very poor constructions. The problems with these sheets are that when it rains, the noise of the rain hitting the roofs is very loud and children can’t study. In addition to this, they are not that stable and sometimes leaks can occur. Also, they do not insulate from the weather.
• Solution: We are planning the construction of roofs for 9 rooms.

B. DOORS:
• Problem: The doors at the school are very old, and most of them are broken.
• Solution: Refurbish the doors of the school. They need to be painted and fixed.

C. WINDOWS:
• Problem: Some of the windows of each class are broken, which make the class really cold in winter
• Solution: Replace broken glass

D. PAINT:
• Problem: Most of the walls has been destroyed because of the rain, also there are a lot of holes in the walls
• Solution: We are planning to paint the interior and exterior of each class

E. DESKS:
• Problem: Currently, theses classes have desks designed for 4-6 year olds and kids of 9-12 use them.
• Solution: We will have 40 desks made for each class so kids can seat comfortably in the right size desk. We have already contacted a carpenter in Huarocondo, which can do these desks for us. The volunteers will provide the finishing touches to these desks, as they will need to be painted and finished.

F. SHELVES AND CABINETS
• Problem:. There are not any shelves or any other place where the children and the teachers can put away books or school supplies.
• Solution: We will have made 01 shelf and 01 cabinet for each class.

G. BLACK BOARD
• Problem: The existing board is very old and misplaced very low in the wall so the teacher has to almost kneel to write.
• Solution: We will make 01 board for each class.

H. GARDEN
• Problem: The interior garden looks terrible, and is dangerous for the children because there are a lot of holes and bumps.
• Solution: We will clean the garden, pick up the garbage and make the earth is flat (without bumps). The community will provide us with flowers, dirt to plant a garden.

I. TOILETS
• Problem: The women bathrooms do not have toilets. They only have holes “cilos” which are built on the ground. These cilos are very dirty and can be sources of contamination.
• Solution: We will buy and install 03 toilets in the women bathroom.

J. WATER KEYS
• Problem: Thee children's bathrooms does not have any water keys.
• Solution: We will buy and install 06 water keys in the bathrooms.

K. SCHOOL SUPPLIES
• Problem: Most of the children do not have books, notebooks, pencils, pens. They usually share a book with 4 or 5 kids, and most of them use their older brother`s notebook, so they do not have space to write.

Solution: We will buy books, notebooks, pens, pencils for the children, so they can study in better conditions

FACILITY #2: PARROQUIAL ALBERGUE (SHELTER) OF THE CHURCH OF HUAROCONDO

1. Location:
The priest in charge of the Temple of Huarocondo has started to build a shelter for small children that live far from the town and therefore far from the school.

2. Information about number of children/adults at facility:
This Shelter is currently empty since it is not ready yet. It is planned to host approximately 50 children.

3. Primary needs and type of activities we are planning (i.e. party for kids, etc.).
The shelter is not finished yet, there are 6 bedrooms, 01 big meeting room, 01 kitchen and 03 restrooms. Their primary needs are:

These children will normally have to walk 3-4 hours per day to go to school. The idea is to build this shelter to provide these children with a place to live from Monday to Friday so they can go to school during the week. Most of these children live in the rural communities outside Huarocondo. The shelter is located behind the Temple of Huarocondo. Please see above address.

A. MEETING ROOM
A.1. ELECTRIC CONNECTIONS
• Problem: They don not have any electric connections, so they can not use the room late in the afternoon, evening.
• Solution: We are planning to install electric connections, such as switches, outlets, pipes, fluorescent bulbs, and more.

A.2. CHAIRS
• Problem: This room has no furniture, so the people cannot use this room. The idea was to use this room as a place where children can play, study after school or do any afternoon activity.
• Solution: The director of the school is willing to donate their old chairs to this project after replacing with new ones (as mentioned before the ones they have are too small for children of 4th,5th and 6th grades). We will repair the school chairs so we can use them here, since they are small chairs (for children 3 -6 years).

A.3. FURNITURE (BLACK BOARD/SHELFS)
• Problem: We think they should have a cabinet where to store materials such as games, school supplies for classes, etc. Also, a blackboard would be useful

• Solution: We are planning the construction of 01 roof for this room, of the remaining roof and finish the other 5 roofs

FACILITY #3: MEDICAL CLINIC OF HUAROCONDO

1. Describe the locations you plan to visit:
Huarocondo currently has a medical clinic that was built on top of water springs. For this reason, the humidity and water have started to get into the walls there is mold everywhere. We are in the process of consulting with an expert (engineer) so we can determine if this situation can be solved of if it is better to move the clinic.

2. Information about number of children/adults at facility:
In this medical clinic is mainly an emergency room and walk ins looking to consult with a doctor. Patients do not stay overnight here, since there are no equipment, nor beds, nor stretchers. In case of a real emergency such as surgery, they transport the patients to the nearest hospital 45 minutes away. The clinic currently helps about 20 patients per day.

3. Primary needs and type of activities we are planning (i.e. party for kids, etc.).
The clinic has 1 doctor, 1 nurse and 1 Midwife. It primarily serves as an emergency room and primary care.

In addition to the remodeling of the clinic, their primary need is help for the seniors. They need help with specific prescriptions for mainly respiratory problems.
