Day 2: Lima City Tour & Archeological Museum Visit (B, L)
Many tours tend to forget about Lima on the way to Cusco. In our opinion, the history and anthropology of Lima, with Cultures that pre-date the Incas by thousands of years, provides an excellent starting point to better understand and appreciate the Inca cultures you will see in Cusco. In the City Tour, we will see the Spanish city Square, get a snapshot of the most important city sites, and visit a world-class museum to learn about pre-Inca cultures. Sites to be visited: Main Square, The Cathedral, Government Palace, City Hall, San Francisco Monastery (including catacombs), old streets with colonial houses, and a great driving tour through beautiful San Isidro and Miraflores. You will have a delicious typical Peruvian lunch at one of the best restaurants in Lima. After lunch, you will continue on guided tour of Lima’s Archaeological Museum. This museum exhibits an important collection of ceramics, textiles and gold work from the Chavin, Mochica, Chimu, Tiahuanaco, Pucará, Paracas, Nazca and Ica Cultures. After your tour, you will be taken back to your hotel in Lima. * An extra day in Lima can be added upon request. Please let us know if you like us to add additional activities and meals.
Day 3: Pachacamac Tour & Dinner at La Huaca (B, D)
After breakfast at your hotel in Lima, one of our representatives will meet you at your hotel, and accompany you on your guided tour of Pachacamac. On this wonderful tour, you will visit Pachacamac, a sacred place ceremonies from the beginnings of the Christian age, which is located 31km south of Lima. It boasts a set of pyramidal constructions and precincts of ancient pre-Columbian cultures and of the Inca Empire. At the conclusion of your tour, you will be taken back to your hotel in order for you to enjoy the rest of the afternoon, free at your leisure. In the evening, you will once again be met at your hotel by our representative, and be taken to one of Lima’s most popular restaurants for a special evening of fine dining. Day 4: Fly to Cusco & Transfer to Sacred Valley & Private Tour of Pisac Market (B, L)
We transfer back to the airport for the short, one-hour flight to Cusco, the ancient capital of the Incas, located at 11,100 feet above sea level. You will be met upon arrival, and transferred directly to your hotel in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. On the way to your hotel in the Sacred Valley, you will enjoy a tour of the Pisac Market. The Pisac market has a wide variety of artisan arts & crafts and you will have the chance to see the many different products that the sacred valley produces. This is a great opportunity to for you to do some unique shopping, and to purchase souvenirs for your family and friends. After lunch, you will have the remainder of the day to rest and freshen up. It’s best to take it easy this day to let your body adjust to the altitude. Some find enjoying a cup of hot coca tea a real help in adjusting to the high elevation and that is what the locals traditionally use coca for. *Depending on which domestic flight you choose you will have more or less time to rest.
Day 5: Ollantaytambo Tour, Pottery Class & Lunch at Hacienda Huayoccari (B, L)
After breakfast at your hotel in Cusco, you will be met at the hotel and taken on your Ollantaytambo Tour. The fortress of Ollantaytambo consists of a series of superimposed terraces of carved stones accessed by long staircases. The upper terrace contains large, admirably worked stone. It was here that Manco Inca fought the troops of Hernando Pizarro in 1537, leading a fierce resistance against the Spanish which continued for many years from Inca hideouts in the jungles of Vilcabamba. At the conclusion of your tour, you will embark on a truly unique experience, by heading to the Hacienda Huayoccari, where the inhabitants of the Hacienda will host you for a specially prepared meal of Cusquenian home cooking. Next, you will transfer to the studio of Pablo Seminario, renowned artist in Peru where you will have a pottery class. His ceramic studio has been dedicated to the discovery of techniques and designs from ancient Peruvian cultures. Pablo presents a new art expression, providing continuity to these cultural inheritances. After lunch, you will be transferred back to your sacred valley hotel to rest for the day. * An extra overnight at the sacred valley can be added upon request. Please let us know if you like us to add additional activities and meals.
Day 6: Free morning & Train to Aguas Calientes (B)
After breakfast at your hotel in the Sacred Valley, you will have the chance to enjoy the morning, free at your leisure. This will provide you with the chance to take in the sites in and around the hotel at your own pace, or take the opportunity to rest. In the afternoon, you will be taken to the train station, where you will take the scenic train ride from the town of Ollantaytambo to the town of Aguas Calientes. Once you arrive in Aguas Calientes, you will be picked up by one of our representatives, and taken to your hotel. * We will ask you to pack a small bag for Aguas Calientes, we will send the rest of your luggage to your Cusco Hotel. We enter the ruins for a breathtaking view of the city in the sky. You will enjoy a 3-hour private tour of the lost city of the Incas and have lunch on your own after the tour. In the afternoon we say farewell to Machu Picchu as we set out by train heading to the station at Poroy and then on to Cusco Hotel by car arriving at night. * An overnight in MachuPicchu can be added upon request. After breakfast at your hotel in Cusco, you will be picked up by one of our representatives, and be taken on your guided tour of the Salt Mines of Maras, Moray and Chinchero site and waiver community. During this tour we will visit the town of Maras, picturesque town, home to the most important salt mines in the region. The city is located 46 km. from the city of Cusco in the province of Urubamba and still maintains its colonial architecture. The salt mines have been exploited since Inca times and during the Vice-regency, it was the largest salt producer of the southern highlands. We will continue our visit to Moray and see its enormous terraces, which served at the Inca time like an agricultural laboratory “Prototype as Conservatory” in which old quechuas experienced and obtained improvements. Place where incredible advances in agriculture were obtained. At the end of your tour, you will be taking to Chinchero, where you will have the opportunity to see and interact with the weaving community. Woven cloth was a highly prized trading commodity in pre-Columbian times and the Incas continued the tradition, making vast quantities of textiles to burn as ritual offerings. At the conclusion of your tour, you will be taken back to your hotel in Cusco, where dinner will be on your own. * An extra day in Cusco can be added upon request. Please let us know if you like us to add additional activities and meals.
Day 9: Cathedral, Koricancha and Shamanic Ceremony at Sacsayhuaman (B)
After breakfast, you will set out on grand tour of Cusco, the former capital of the once vast Incan Empire. The city’s Spanish Colonial architecture both overlays and is interlaced with the earlier Incan architecture. We walk Cusco’s impressive Plaza de Armas and visit both the Spanish cathedral and Incan temple of the sun, Qoricancha. The Spanish conquistadores destroyed significant portions of the Inca civilization while leaving their mark on Cusco. Ornate cathedrals, adobe walls, carved balconies, hidden courtyards and cobblestone streets add to the historic richness of the ancient Incan capital. Our final stop will be Sacsayhuaman. Some of the stones used to build the site weigh up to 70 tons yet are fitted so precisely–without the use of mortar–that one cannot slide even the thinnest object between them. Some believe that the site forms the head of puma or jaguar and that the huge triangulated walls form its teeth, or symbolize lightening. During the shamanic ceremony, you will participate in an invigorating ceremony that is sure to fill you with energy and make you feel one with your surroundings. The “Despacho Ceremony” involves each passenger to participate guided by our shaman in an interesting and spiritual ritual of earth and ancient traditions. At the conclusion of your tour, you will be taken back to your hotel in Cusco. * An extra day in Cusco can be added upon request. Please let us know if you like us to add additional activities and meals.
Day 10: Free day in Cusco (B)
After breakfast at your hotel in Cusco, you will have the entire day to enjoy Cusco at your leisure. This will allow you to take in Cusco at your own pace, without any set activities. You will find that the town of Cusco is full of things to do, and sites to take in. The locals are extremely friendly, and will be sure to provide you with a memorable experience. * Please let us know if you like us to add additional activities and meals.
Day 11: Back to Lima/ Peruvian lunch/ Shopping time & Back Home (B, L)
After breakfast, you will be picked up at your hotel, and taken directly to the airport in Cusco, where you will catch your short, one-hour flight back to the capital. This shopping tour will provide you with an excellent opportunity to get any last-minute souvenirs and gifts, prior to departing back home. Important Notes:
About MachuPicchu Entrance Tickets
As the popularity of MachuPicchu has increased in the last few years, and in order to preserve the ancient paths of MachuPicchu, the Peruvian Cultural Institute (INC) has restricted the number of people that could enter MachuPicchu to 2,500 people per day. This means that, once the 2,500 tickets are sold out, no further entrance tickets will available. Also, please note that to avoid a secondary market for these tickets, all tickets are issued with the name of the passenger, his/her passport number, nationality and date of birth. Therefore, tickets are non refundable and non transferable.
About Huaynapichu Tickets
Entrance tickets to Huaynapichu are not longer free, entrance tickets are now US$12.00 per person. There are two scheduled visits per day, with a limit of 200 people per visit (Total of 400 per day). If you are interested in hiking the Huaynapichu, we will need you to let us know at the same time you book your trip since the Huaynapichu tickets need to be purchased in conjunction to the MachuPicchu tickets.
